Hi, I’m Michaela!
My relationship with yoga has been one of continuous evolution, curiosity and self discovery. I found yoga at 15 years old and with a background in dance I connected to the smooth, fluid movements and quickly fell in love with the practice. It was in my first year of college when I began struggling with my mental health that I found the true power of yoga. My practice moved beyond just a physical outlet and became a place of solitude to cultivate stillness and reflection that gave me glimpses of being connected to myself in ways I hadn’t experienced before. I ended up taking the following year off from school, enrolled in my first yoga teacher training and started teaching public classes immediately following graduation.
Yoga was the catalyst that sparked my interest in whole body health and wellness. This resulted in a cross country move to Seattle, WA where I earned my degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Bastyr University. Throughout my time at school I continued to teach multiple classes a week along with my full time studies. While learning about the body in the context of nutrition, my interest in anatomy and movement deepened. This fascination ultimately led me to pursue my 500-hour Yoga Medicine certification under the teachings of Tiffany Cruikshank.
After many years of practicing yoga I began developing aches and pains, even a few minor injuries. Curious and committed to finding a movement practice that would support me over my lifetime I dove deeper into biomechanics, current research and learning from different modalities such as weight lifting, kettlebells and mobility training. I’ve spent nearly the last decade immersed in the world of yoga, movement, nutrition and wellness creating a deep understanding of the human body and what it means to find and sustain balance across the many dimensions of the human experience. This has helped me to shape a well rounded practice based on science that still honors the traditions and spiritual teachings of yoga and mindfulness. My time spent learning the deeper, more therapeutic aspects of yoga and movement science has allowed me to be able to hone into individual needs and offer practices to best support them.
I’ve since moved back to my hometown in upstate NY, where I teach yoga full time in both public group classes and in private, individual sessions. My classes use a blend of yoga, strength training principles, breathwork, meditation, myofascial release, pain science and functional movement to create a unique and interdisciplinary class experience that addresses the body in a holistic and multidimensional way to help people feel strong and confident in themselves and their abilities.
